The following is a list of steps you should take before your last day as a Princeton employee. Departing postdocs should also refer to the University checklist found here. Shortly before your last month at the center, you will receive more detailed information.

DEPARTURE DATE AND FORWARDING INFORMATION

Please inform the office coordinator and center manager of your exact departure date, as soon as possible.

Before your appointment ends, update your forwarding information via HR Self- Service: http://www.princeton.edu/selfservice

This will allow Princeton University to forward important communications to you in the future. If you are in the U.S. on a visa, providing your updated information will ensure that future communications from Non-Resident Tax Compliance and Payroll reach you in a timely manner.

In addition to updating your information in HR Self Service, please email Monique Joseph: (1) your forwarding email address, (2) your home mailing address, and (3) your professional mailing address so that the center can forward your mail and future communications.

Please return your office key to Monique before you leave Princeton.

COMPUTING

Please note that your Princeton email account will be disabled 28 days following your end date. If you choose, you may forward your email to a personal email account. Prior to your departure, please transfer any important data to your personal computer. For help with email forwarding or copying email/files from your office computer or personal drive, email Raymond Samaroo directly. OIT offers a service of forwarding messages sent to the former DOF staff member's email address for up to one year.

CONCUR

Please submit any outstanding Concur reports a month prior to the end of your appointment. After your last day, your University Travel and Expense card will no longer work, and you will lose access to Concur.

HEALTHCARE BENEFITS

If you are insured through Princeton University, your coverage will end on the last day of the month in which your appointment ends. This is automatic and requires no additional action. If eligible, you will receive information from the Office of Human Resource’s vendor PayFlex about continuing your health care benefits under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). If you have questions prior to your departure, please contact the Human Resources Benefits Staff at 609-258-3302 or [email protected]

PACKING AND MOVING

Research funds are not available for personal or office moving expenses. In addition, the center's staff cannot assist with any lifting/packing/moving of boxes or other personal effects.

TAXES

We recommend printing or saving your final payment as a PDF, as you will likely need it for your tax filing (if you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident).

The refunds will be sent via your request by completing Sprintax Returns. Only a U.S. bank account can be used to receive your tax refund from the relevant tax authorities. The IRS does not accept foreign banking information when sending refunds. This means you will need to keep your bank account open until after you receive your tax return or pay taxes owed. On the bank's website, you will see the minimum balance you must keep in the account before leaving the country. You can close your account while abroad.

EXIT MEETING (Postdocs and Fellows)

You will meet with Seeger Center Director Dimitri Gondicas about two to three weeks before your last day. A week prior to this meeting, you will need to submit the following:

  1. Report to the Seeger Center Executive Committee on Hellenic Studies
  2. Thank you letter to the chair and trustees
  3. An abstract about the research you undertook at Princeton and your findings. We will use this to update your abstract on our website.
  4. Confidential memo
  5. Library survey
