In January, Hellenic Studies students, faculty, friends and staff gathered at the Scheide Caldwell house to ring in the new year with music and refreshments. Led by Nikitas Tampakis, a band comprised of Hellenic Studies’ talented musicians — including Nicoletta Demetriou, Konstantinos Konstaninou and Emanuel Scoullos — played traditional Greek carols sung together with the audience. Afterwards, vasilopita was served to all, but only four lucky guests got a slice with a coin, which is said to bring good luck for the new year.
