Fifth Translation Workshop
CURRENTLY CLOSED Translators of Modern Greek into English are invited to a two-day workshopThe Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University invites applications for a two-day Translation Workshop, to be held on May 3-4, 2023, focusing on the translation of Modern Greek texts into English. The goal of the workshop is to encourage collaborative, creative thinking about specific projects, and also to further an interest in Greek literature as a growing field for literary translation. The organizing committee will choose promising early-career translators with interest and ability in Modern Greek.
The workshop will be run by Peter Constantine, a highly acclaimed professional translator from numerous languages, including Greek, and Director of the Literary Translation Program at the University of Connecticut; he will be aided by Karen Emmerich, Director of the Program in Translation and Intercultural Communication at Princeton and translator of Greek literature. We will focus primarily on pre-circulated texts of the participants’ own choosing.
Applicants are requested to send a brief note explaining their interest in and experience with translation from Greek, and a sample of the translation they hope to workshop to [email protected] by February 24, 2023. The sample should be no more than 5 pages; please also include a copy of the Greek text being translated.
