Nikolaos Michailidis

Lecturer in the Stanley J. Seeger '52 Center for Hellenic Studies and the Department of Anthropology.

Dr. Nikos Michailidis is a sociocultural anthropologist. His research interests include political anthropology, Hellenic cultural heritage in the eastern Mediterranean, arts and politics, social transformation, collective memory, material culture and exchange, humans and technology, Greece, USA, Turkey. He is currently working on his first book manuscript which analyzes the remaking and revival of listening to Pontian-Greek lyra music in contemporary Turkey and its sociopolitical repercussions. Firmly believing in the power of art to bring about intercultural awareness and positive social change, Dr. Michailidis, a Pontian-lyra performer himself, has created and participated in a number of musical projects in Greece, Turkey, U.S.A and Canada.
